The structure was built between 1818 and 1820 by mill builder Johann Hermann Stindt . First a design by the master builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel was planned, which could not be realized for financial reasons. The Ebberg Church was the replacement for the previously demolished Vitus Church .

The building is a listed building .

The new building was donated by Jobst Edmund von Brabeck , who at that time owned the neighboring Hemer house . The church was expanded or renovated several times, most recently in 2006.
