Stephanuskirche

The Stephanuskirche is the only church building in Deilinghofen and the oldest in the urban area of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia . The church was probably built in the 14th century on the remains of the previous church.

The building has been a listed building since 1982 .

history

A church was built in Deilinghofen as early as the 13th century. In the following century, today's Stephanuskirche was finally built. At that time Deilinghofen still belonged to the parish of Menden, the church was already consecrated to St. Stephen . In the course of the Reformation , almost the entire community joined the Protestant church in 1565, so that from then on the St. Stephen's Church was used by the Protestant community. Until 1638 there was a beguinage in Deilinghofen, which was used as a pastorate from 1655 .

The late Gothic carved altar , which was completely renovated in 1860, and the likewise Gothic crucifix , which was renovated in 1954, are particularly worth seeing today .

architecture

Square shapes determine the architecture of today's Stephanuskirche. The main nave as well as the tower and the choir have a square floor plan. The tower was added to the west of the nave, the choir is to the east. The present sacristy north of the choir is also an extension. A total of six Gothic windows are set into the walls . The preserved part of an old tympanum is attached above the south portal , which was probably preserved from the previous building. The relief shows the scene of the birth of Jesus and, in its complete state, probably also contained an image of the crucifixion and the resurrection .
