Christ Church Radolfzell (church tower)

The Christ Church Radolfzell is the church of the evangelical parish Radolfzell on Lake Constance , it belongs to the parish of Konstanz of the Evangelical Church in Baden and was built in the Bauhaus style from 1964 to 1967 by the architect Roland Mayer.

history

The Protestant congregation in Radolfzell is relatively young, in 1853 there were only 15 Protestants in the city, and the first Protestant service was celebrated on Christmas Day 1863 in the town hall.

The industrialization brought at the end of the 19th century a rapid and strong increase in the number of parishioners and the desire to have their own church, which was finally inaugurated in the John Street (today Bismarck Street) on 27 August 1899th On October 12, 1904, the parish became an independent parish due to a grand ducal decree of February 8, 1904.

The growth in Protestants was noticeable through the establishment of a separate Protestant congregation in Radolfzell-Böhringen in 1955 and the Paul Gerhardt Church in Böhringen, which was completed in 1958 - and through the plans to expand the Evangelical Church in Radolfzell.

It quickly became apparent that the old church could no longer be expanded, so it was torn down in 1963. On the 1st of Advent 1965, Dean Friedrich Mono laid the foundation stone of the new church, on February 27, 1967, the Christ Church was inaugurated by senior church councilor Katz.

inner space

Today's interior.

The interior is deliberately kept simple.

The five paraments on the side wall can be named as works of art, which are hung around depending on the church season. They are quite large (2.75 × 2 meters) tapestries, the design of which comes from Gabriele Heidecker from Markelfingen , the woven designs from Hildegard Weller from Stuttgart.

Since Pentecost 2001 there has been a cross installation in the chancel of the Christ Church. The wooden beams come from Constance, where they were used to build houses in 1337. As an expression of Easter joy, the Easter candle burns near the cross.

The baptismal font donated by the Burkart family in 1899 came back just in time for the parish's 100th birthday in 2004.
