Charles Daellenbach
Conrad Charles "Chuck" Daellenbach C.M. (Born July 12, 1945 in Rhinelander , Wisconsin , United States ) is an American - Canadian tuba player . He is best known as a founding member of the Canadian Brass quintet , of which he has been tuba player since 1970.
Life
Charles Daellenbach's grandfather came from Switzerland and his grandmother from near Hanover . They emigrated to the United States and, like Charles' parents, were musicians.
Charles Daellenbach grew up in Wisconsin and received music lessons first from his father and later from Arnold Jacobs . In 1966 he received his Bachelor of Music, in 1968 his Master of Arts and in 1971 his doctorate from the Eastman School of Music . He then moved to Canada to teach at the University of Toronto . In 1970 he founded the brass quintet Canadian Brass with trombonist Gene Watts , with which he has played concerts all over the world since then. He also gives master classes .
Daellenbach is the director of Canadian Brass Publishing and the recording label Opening Day Entertainment Group .
In 2014 he became a "member" of the Order of Canada in recognition of his services to popularizing classical music, in particular as a co-founder of Canadian Brass.
Charles Daellenbach is married and has two sons. He lives in Toronto, Canada .
