Chuk Island ( English ; Russian Остров Чук Ostrow Tschuk ) is an island off the Knox coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . It's in the Bunger Hills .
Scientists on a Soviet Antarctic expedition mapped it and named it in 1956 after one of the two main characters from the book Tschuk and Gek by the Soviet youth writer Arkadi Gaidar from 1939. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia translated the name into English in 1984.
