Chulabhorn Walailak ( Thai : สมเด็จ พระเจ้า ลูกเธอ เจ้าฟ้า จุฬา ภร ณ วลัย ลักษณ์ อัคร ราช กุมารี , pronunciation: [ sǒmdèt pʰrát͡ɕâːw lûːktʰɤː t͡ɕâofáː t͡ɕùlaːpʰɔːn Walailak àkkʰárárâːt͡ɕʰákùmaːriː ], even Chulabhorn Mahidol * 4. July 1957 in Bangkok , Thailand) is princess of the Kingdom of Thailand . She is the fourth child of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and Queen Sirikit Kitiyakara .

Life

Chulabhorn studied chemistry and did her doctorate and habilitation from Mahidol University , Bangkok , at whose faculty she enrolled in 1985.

Chulabhorn is currently President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute in Bangkok, which was founded at her instigation. She is particularly interested in the chemistry of the country's natural substances and medicinal plants.

Family information

The princess has three older siblings, the Princess Ubol Ratana Rajakanya , the King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn and the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn . She was married since January 7, 1982 to the officer of the Royal Air Force Virayuth Didyasarin , with whom she also has two daughters, Princess Siribhachudhabhorn and Princess Adityadornkitkhun . Although she would have had to cede all claims and her royal title with this marriage, the king issued an exemption so that she could keep her title Chao Fa . The marriage was divorced in 1996.

Awards

Princess Chulabhorn was awarded the Einstein Medal of UNESCO for their years of work for the scientific cooperation in the Asia - Pacific region. In 2009 she received the Adolf Windaus Medal .

Princess Chulabhorn has been an honorary member of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research since 1999 .
