Chunchucmil is a Maya ruin site in the Mexican state of Yucatán on the west side of the Yucatán Peninsula in the parishes of Maxcanú and Halachó .

geography

Location of Chunchucmil

The site is 17 miles inland from the Atlantic coast, halfway to the Mayan ruins of Oxkintoc . It is named after the nearby settlement of Chunchucmil .

history

Chunchucmil had been settled since the early classical period. There is evidence that it was an important trading place for obsidian .

archeology

The four main sacbeob in the center of the site are between 15 and 25 meters wide and 130 to 300 meters long.
