The Chūnichi Shimbun ( Japanese 中 日 新聞 ) is a daily newspaper in Japan .
Owner of the newspaper is Japanese media company KK Chunichi Shimbunsha ( 株式会社中日新聞社 , Engl. Chunichi Shimbun Co., Ltd. ), headquartered in Nagoya , the capital of the prefecture of Aichi .
The oldest forerunner, the newspaper Shin Aichi ( 新 愛 知 , "New Aichi"), was founded in 1886. This became the Chūbu Nippon Shimbun ( 中部 日本 新聞 , "Central Japanese Newspaper" ) with the Nagoya Shimbun ( 名古屋 新聞 ) founded in 1906 in the Pacific War in 1942 ) united. Chūnichi ( 中 日 ), the abbreviation of Chūbu Nippon, was the name of the publisher's baseball team in 1948 , the title of the newspaper in 1965 and the publisher's name in 1971. Since 1948 the prestigious Chūnichi Culture Prize ( Chūnichi bunkashō , 中 日 文化 賞 ) established on the occasion of the introduction of the constitution in 1947 has been awarded annually.
The company also owns the Tōkyō Shimbun , Chūnichi Sports and Tōkyō Chūnichi Sports newspapers .
