Arad Benko

Arad Benkö (* 1970 ) is an Austrian diplomat and currently ambassador to Georgia .

Arad Benkö studied 1990–1996 and 1996–1999 (doctorate) at the University of Vienna , between 1991/1992 at King's College London and 1996/1997 postgraduate at the College of Europe in Bruges. In March 1998 he began his career in the Foreign Ministry and in 1999 became an attaché at the Austrian Embassy in Bonn (Germany) . From 2000 to 2001 he acted as political advisor to the UN special envoy in Pristina at the Kosovo-United Nations Administration Mission (UNMIK). From 2002 to 2005 Benkö held the post of Deputy Ambassador to the Austrian Embassy in Bucharest (Romania) , then he took over the coordination of the Political and Security Committee at the Austrian Representation in Brussels . From 2006 to 2009 he was director of the Tel Aviv Cultural Forum and press spokesman for the embassy in Israel . He then worked as deputy head of the EU coordination department at the BMeiA in Vienna .

In January 2015, Benkö was appointed the last Austrian Ambassador to Latvia (accredited February 17). The embassy was closed under his direction. In September 2016 he became ambassador at the new Austrian embassy in Tbilisi .
