Ināra Mūrniece (born December 30, 1970 ) is a Latvian politician and journalist. She has been a member of the Saeima since 2011 and was elected President of Parliament on November 4, 2014 . She was re-elected on November 6, 2018.

biography

In 2007 Ināra Mūrniece obtained a bachelor's degree in translation and interpretation from the Latvian School of Economics and Culture. In 2009 she graduated from the Faculty of Modern Languages ​​at the University of Latvia . Until 2011, she worked for a total of 16 years as a journalist in the editorial office of Latvia's largest daily newspaper, Latvijas Avīze .

In the 2011 parliamentary election she entered the list of Nacionālā apvienība "Visu Latvijai!" - “Tēvzemei ​​un Brīvībai / LNNK” and was successfully elected to the eleventh Saeima. In Parliament, she was chair of the Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs. In the early parliamentary elections in 2014 , she was re-elected as a member of the twelfth Saeima. From September to October 2014 she was group leader of her party. She gave up this post after she was elected President of Parliament on November 4th, succeeding Solvita Āboltiņa .

Until 2015 she was married to the historian and Saeima MP Ritvars Jansons. The two have a daughter together.

Political positions

Ināra Mūrniece describes himself as national conservative. In connection with the asylum policy of the European Union , she spoke out against a distribution key, but is a staunch supporter of the EU . She also campaigned for the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine , the Republic of Moldova and Georgia . In connection with Latvia's membership in NATO , she advocated an increase in defense spending to the contractually binding 2% of gross domestic product. She has repeatedly expressed herself critical of the Russian Federation , which she accuses of propaganda on Latvian territory.
