Building description

The church, built from flint and shell limestone , is on the main street. In the west it has a round tower, a long hall-like nave and a choir of the same height from the 12th century. The main Romanesque features are the tower and the choir arch.

The Romanesque tower apparently dates from pre-Norman times, although it is a feature of Norman church architecture in the region. One high-altitude, narrow lancet window with monolithic round heads in the north and south is original. The bell platform has younger round-headed windows. They are in two rows with three openings each in the south and two in the north. The single bell dates from the 14th century. The west window and the crenellated tour are from a later time.

The ship with the former north window, which is only visible from the interior, must date from the 12th century. The steep, double-lined chancel arch dates from the 13th century, but has ornate side pillars from the 12th century. On its east side, carved wedge stones from the 12th century have been reused. One of the lancet windows in the north wall of the nave, the south choir portal and the two portals in the nave date from the 13th century. The southern one received a porch in the 15th century. A major remodel took place in the first half of the 14th century when the walls of the nave and choir were raised and buttresses were added. Two side tracery windows were added in the nave and choir, and an east window was added to the choir.

On the north wall of the nave there are remains of the wall paintings from the 13th and 14th centuries.
