The Cidade Universitária Armando Salles de Oliveira ( CUASO ) is the largest campus of the Universidade de São Paulo . It is located in the west of the city, in the Butantã district, and is named after the founder of the university, the liberal Paulist politician Armando Sales . The campus is around eight square kilometers and houses most of the institutes and the central bodies of the university, such as the rectorate and the vice rectorate.

The campus also houses the Institute for Nuclear and Energy Research (IPEN), the Institute for Technological Research (IPT), the State Geographic and Cartographic Institute ( Instituto Geográfico e Cartográfico IGC), the State Police Academy ( Academia de Polícia Acadepol), the technological center of the Brazilian Navy ( Centro Tecnológico da Marinha do Brasil em São Paulo CTMSP) and the Biblioteca Brasiliana Guita e José Mindlin .

The student residence Conjunto Residencial da Universidade de São Paulo is also located on the campus.
