The Tarnów tram was the tram in the Polish city of Tarnów that operated from 1911 to 1946.
history
Besides Lviv and Krakow, Tarnów was the only larger city in Galicia with a tram. On September 25, 1911 the tram was ceremoniously put into operation. The two-and-a-half kilometer route led from ul. Burtniczej through Lwowską to Pilzno Gate, then through Wałową around the city center and over Krakowską to the train station.
Between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., six cars drove on the route every six minutes, two more cars were in the depot as a reserve. The wagons were painted red, which is why the people called them biedronkami ' ladybirds ' . The tickets were expensive for the time - a ride for an adult cost 20 Groszy , which is why the number of passengers fell. In the mid-1930s, only half of the passengers were carried, compared to the 1920s. The administration of the voivodeship wanted to stop the tram because the operation was subsidized by the city. The tram was shut down by the German occupation authorities in 1942 because it obstructed military traffic to the Eastern Front. The tram has been converted into a café and is a tourist attraction in Tarnów.
