The Grudziądz tram (German: Graudenz) consists of two lines. The town of Grudziądz has about 100,000 inhabitants and is located on the bank of the Vistula about 100 kilometers south of Gdansk . It has the smallest independent tram network in Poland . The route runs partly on one track and partly on two tracks with a turnaround . The tram network was opened in 1896.
history
The official opening of a horse-drawn tram in what was then Graudenz took place on June 13, 1896. Electrical operation began on May 11, 1899. Operation began with six railcars, the former horse-drawn tram cars had been converted into sidecars. In 1911 it was decided to extend the tram route. A budget of 150,000 marks was made available for this. The tram network was then gradually expanded until the German occupation began on May 10, 1939. The tram was in operation until January 23, 1945 when the Eastern Front approached during World War II . After a six-week battle in the city, the tram system was badly damaged and traffic had to be suspended for about ten months. After the war, the city received, among other things, wagons from Krakow to be able to resume operations. The first vehicles produced after the war came to Grudziądz in 1955. In 1980 the line to Tarpno was opened, where a new residential area was created.
On September 5, 1993, the depot hall was destroyed by fire, which damaged many cars. Operations had to be stopped for several days. To replace the destroyed wagons, six 805Nb wagons were bought from Konstal, they are the only wagons of this type. Although these cars were sold as new by Konstal, it later turned out that they were formerly standard-gauge 105Nb, which had previously been in service in Warsaw , but had been returned to Konstal due to defects, refurbished and fitted with meter-gauge bogies.
On December 1, 2005, line 1, which ran from Tarpno to the station, was discontinued. It was put back into operation in 2007, but stopped again on August 13, 2011. Since then, the tram network has only consisted of one line. The 1.4-kilometer branch line to the main train station will be retained as an entrance to the depot.
On March 11, 2013, the line in Ulica Chełmińska was closed for track renewal work, so that the section to Rządz could no longer be used. As a replacement, buses with the line identifier AT2 operated . The section to Tarpno was served by the re-established line 1 Tarpno ↔ Dworzec Kolejowy. Line 2 did not operate during construction.
From October 1, 2013 to July 31, 2015, line 3 ran the Rządz - Dworzec Kolejowy route .
After the completion of the renovation work on the northern branch of the route, the condition of 2013 was restored and operations on the route to Tarpno were resumed, while the regular service to the station was suspended. The new line 3 to the station was only opened after a few years.

vehicles
Konstal 805Na / 805Nb
The tram in Grudziądz got the first railcar of the type Konstal 805Na in 1980. A total of 26 cars were procured, of which 13 are still available. Some cars were modernized in 2010 at ZNTK Mińsk Mazowiecki. There are also six Konstal 805Nb cars.
Düwag GT6 / GT8
The first used trams from Germany came to Grudziądz in 1997. Eight Düwag GT6 were procured between 1997 and 2000. Two of the cars came from Mannheim , the remaining six are original Hagen cars that were in use in Würzburg after the network there was shut down . Some of these vehicles were in service until 2010, six of them were sold to the Łódź tram company. They became dispensable after ten used Düwag GT8s taken over from Krefeld were put into operation.
