From 1991 to March 2008 only wagons based on the Konstal 105N type ran . Only since 2008 have new low-floor PESA 122N trams been running in Bydgoszcz . But the majority of the fleet consists of the Type 805Na. In 2010 new low-floor wagons were put out to tender. An offer was only received from the PESA company . The delivery date is still vague because it is a framework contract for 14 cars and the city is in financial difficulties.

Line 6 train at the depot

* The Babia Wieś loop is no longer used for turning trams, but lines 5 and 6 in the direction of Rondo Toruński have their stop on the outer loop track .

** The loop at the station was closed together with the line on Ulica Dworcowa on January 25, 1990 due to a gas explosion. Since 1997 the loop has been separated from the rest of the network. It was dismantled in connection with the reconstruction of the line to the station. The new route to the station ends at the new Rycerska loop .

*** The Magnuszewska loop is no longer used to turn trams, but it is used by line 2.

Depots

At the moment there is only one depot of the Bydgoszcz tram: the Toruńska depot, which went into operation on July 22, 1959. All line vehicles, work cars and museum cars are based here.

The depot was rebuilt several times: 1982, 1998 and 2002. Today it has 20 sidings and the hall has seven pits. There is also a repair shop, workshop and paint shop.

Plans to expand the network

Planned expansion of the tram network in Bydgoszcz by 2030
  • Existing network
  • A1: route to the train station, in operation since 2012
  • B1: Route to Fordon
  • C1: Route along Ulica Kujawska
  • C2: route to the Szwederowo settlement
  • C3: route to the Błonie settlement
  • C4: route to the Miedzyń settlement
  • C5: route to Myślęcinka
  • C6: route on the Kazimierza Wielkiego bridge
    • Line to Fordon (2009-2015) (B1)

The first plans to build a line to Fordon go back to the construction of the 70,000-inhabitant settlement there. However, the construction of the tram line was delayed. Finally, draft planning began in 2009 and was completed in 2012. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2013. The route begins with a bridge over Bydgoszcz Wschód station from Ulica Wyścigowa to Ulica Lewińskiego on the other side of the tracks. The route then runs along the Lewińskiego Street and further along the Akademicka Street. An intermediate turning loop has been created on Ulica Korfantego. From there, the route follows the Akademicka Street to the intersection with the Andersa Street, which it then follows in a north-easterly direction. The route crosses Ulica Wyzwolenia and has another turning loop at the level of Ulica Piłsudskiego. From there, the route continues along Ulica Andersa to Mariampol and Ulica Geodetów, where a new depot was built. The total cost of the project was about 435 million zloty (of which 209 million zloty from EU funds). Completion was originally planned for 2015. The route finally opened on January 16, 2016.

    • Route along Ulica Kujawska (C1)

The important connection of tram routes in the west of the city leads from Rondo Bernardyńskie from the local route to the median of Ulica Wojska Polskiego. The plans include redesigning Rondo Kujawskie (changing the altitude of the roundabout) and dismantling the tram turning loop near the roundabout. The project was registered for the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Regional Development Program 2014-20.

    • Kazimierz Wielki Bridge (C6)

A new line over this bridge from Ulica Fordońska to Ulica Toruńska shortens the route from the eastern to the southern parts of the city. This would create an additional crossing over the Brda for trams in the eastern part of the city. An alternative to this bridge would be the Ulica Perłowa route. The construction of the tram bridge would be combined with the renovation of the road bridge. The year 2020 is set as the time horizon for implementation.

    • Perłowa Street

This measure is being examined as an alternative to the construction of the Kazimierz-Wielki Bridge. The connection between Ulica Fordońska and Ulica Toruńska at the level of Ulica Perłowa would also shorten the route between the eastern and southern parts of the city. This bridge would be another tram crossing of the Brda. It would complement the previous north-south connections between Kujawska-Bernardyńska and Pomorski Bridge.

    Further planning

The following further expansion of the tram network is planned for the years 2025 to 2040:

    • to the Miedzyń settlement (C4): extension along Ulica Nakielska to Ulica Plażowa,
    • around the old town: route along Wały Jagiellońskie - Ulica Grudziądzka - Ulica Poznańska - Ulica Kruszwicka,
    • to the Szwederowo settlement (C2): route from Rondo Kujawskie along Ulica Solskiego and Ulica Piękna,
    • to the settlement Błonie (C3): route from Plac Poznańskiego along ulica Szubińska (only possible after the construction of route C2),
    • to Myślęcinka (C5): This project is not included in the Bydgoszcz traffic study.
    • Ulica Kruszwicka: in the Wilczak area (2030)

    Curiosities

    • The stop with the most people getting on and off is Rondo Jagiellonów, where six lines stop: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8.
    • Line 3, which has been a feeder to the bus routes since 2007 (A + T), has the most frequent intervals. It runs every 5 to 7 minutes during rush hour.
    • The oldest car in use was built in 1977 (Konstal 105NW car 224).
    • 80% of the Bydgoszcz tram routes run on their own track.
    • On Friedrichstrasse (today: Ulica Długa) to the wool market (today: Wełniany Rynek) the incline was so great that the horse-drawn tram had to be pulled by two horses.
