The horse tram Mrozy , Polish Tramwaj konny w Mrozach , was a horse tram in Mrozy in Powiat Miński in Poland , which connected the Rudka sanatorium with the Mrozy station. The railway was in regular operation from 1902 to 1967, and museum railway operations began in 2011 .

history

The history of the horse tram is linked to the construction of the sanatorium for tuberculosis sufferers in Rudka. The sanatorium goes back to the initiative of Teodor Dunin , a doctor who campaigned for the treatment of tuberculosis in lower social classes. Construction of the sanatorium began in 1902. Because the construction site was about two kilometers from the train station, a horse-drawn tram was built to transport the building materials from the train station to the construction site. The construction of the sanatorium was completed after six years, so that the first patients could arrive at the sanatorium on November 29, 1908. From then on, the horse-drawn tram was used to transport patients and ran six times a day. The operation was stopped in 1967 after 59 years, the tracks were removed in the 1970s and the car was handed over to the Sochaczew Railway Museum.

Museum train

The municipality of Mrozy, together with the Association of Friends of Mrozy, decided to rebuild the horse-drawn railway. The Minister of the Environment granted permission for the railway to run through the Rudka Sanatoryjna nature reserve , which includes the forest between the station and the sanatorium. The project was supported by money from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development .

After the tracks were rebuilt, the first test runs took place at the beginning of October 2011, and from spring 2012 the train will run on the first Sunday of each month in the summer season from May to September. The tram has been managed by the Mrozy Municipal Sports and Recreation Center since 2014.
