Cidinho & Doca is a Brazilian DJ duo that became internationally known with the hit Rap das Armas .

Career

Cidinho (actually Sidney da Silva) and Doca (actually Marcos Paulo de Jesus Peizoto) come from the Cidade de Deus , a district of Rio de Janeiro . They had known each other since childhood, went to the same school and eventually started making music together. They successfully participated in local rap competitions.

In 1994 they had their first radio hit with the rap Das Armas . They became really known with the rap Da Felicidade , which expresses the hope of the residents of the favelas for a carefree life. The song is a classic of Funk Carioca , a style of music that developed in the slums of Brazil and whose songs revolve around the lives of the residents. In the rap Das Armas ("Rap of Arms") the distinctive refrain imitates a volley from a rapid fire weapon and the song revolves around the omnipresent violence and crime. Since those hits, Cidinho and Doca have remained successful in Brazil.

In 2007 Rap das Armas was used in the film Tropa de Elite , which is about drug crime and violent police operations in these very favelas. The film was very successful in Brazil in 2007 and was also distributed internationally. In 2008 he was awarded the Golden Bear .

The rap das Armas became known abroad and was recorded and remixed by European DJs. In 2009 it became popular in Europe in a dance-beat version as "Lucana Radio Mix". He reached number 1 in the charts in the Netherlands and Sweden and could e.g. B. also place in Finland and France.
