Book Description

Starting around 400 BC BC, with Herodotus' reference to the Syginnen , who are said to have been the oldest inhabitants of today's Styria and the Cillier area, the chronicle ends with the meeting of the Styrian Forest Association on Monday, September 4th, 1854.

The work is divided into eight epochs , followed by a list of the Cillier bishops and Cillier pastors as well as other clergymen ( vicars , chaplains ). There is also a list of names (Imenik) of clergymen who were born in Cilli. The Cillier district captains, city judges and mayors are listed in two other directories. This is followed by the inscriptions on Roman stones and monuments that were found in and around Cilli and are also kept in Cilli. The conclusion is formed by a list of “lesser known words” (Manj znane besede) and a family tree of the Counts of Cilli (Rodoslovnica Celskih Grofov) created by Orožen with the representation of the coat of arms of the Counts of Cilli (Gerb Celskih Grofov) .

The eight epochs are divided into the following periods:

  • First epoch (Perva doba) : residents of the Cillier room before the birth of Christ.
  • Second epoch (Druga doba) : Cilli under Roman rule. From the year 33 BC Until the year 475 AD
  • Third epoch (Tretja doba) : Cilli under the rule of the Heruli, Goths and the Lombards. From year 476 to 600
  • Fourth epoch (Četerta doba) : From the settlement of the Cillier area by today's Slovenes to the merger of the Lower Carinthian Mark with Styria. From the year 600 to 1149.
  • Fifth epoch (Peta doba) : From the merger of the Lower Carinthian Mark with Styria to the elevation of the Lords of Sanneck to the rank of count. From the year 1149 to 1341.
  • Sixth epoch (Šesta doba) : From the elevation of the Lords of Sanneck to the rank of count to the death of the last Count of Cilli. From the year 1341 to 1456.
  • Seventh epoch (Sedma doba) : From the division of the County of Cilli to the overthrow in Austria. From 1456 to 1848.
  • Eighth epoch (Osma doba) : From the overthrow in Austria in 1848 to the year 1854.
