The former Cinema Condes

The Cinema Condes is a former cinema in the center of the Portuguese capital Lisbon .

It is located in a prominent urban location at the transition from Praça dos Restauradores to the avenue Avenida da Liberdade and was built from 1950 on behalf of the Variedades theater company on the site of the former Teatro Condes . Architect Raul Tojal created a building committed to modernism , the corner position of which is emphasized by an attached rotunda. At the rounded corner there is a relief made of painted plaster by the artist Arístides Vaz .

The cinema was inaugurated in 1952. After renovation work, a branch of the Hard Rock Cafe chain was opened there in 2003 .
