Cipriano Vagaggini

Cipriano Vagaggini (born October 3, 1909 in Piancastagnaio , † January 18, 1999 in Camaldoli ) was an Italian Benedictine .

Life

On October 5, 1928, he made his profession in Sint-Andriesabdij van Zevenkerken and was ordained a priest on June 30, 1934. He continued his theological and philosophical training at the Pontificio Ateneo Sant'Anselmo , of which he will also be dean in the future . In 1931 he received his doctorate in philosophy and in 1938 in theology at the KU Leuven . In 1940 he received his doctorate in Eastern Church Studies at the Pontificio Istituto Orientale . From 1938 to 1942 he was Vice Rector of the Pontificio Collegio Greco di Sant'Atanasio in Rome. He was Professor of Liturgy at the Regina Mundi Institute and one of the founders of the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy.

He attended the Second Vatican Council and his contribution to the drafting of the Council Constitution on the Sacrosanctum Concilium liturgy was fundamental. After the council, he continued his commitment to the application of council reforms and to dogmatic theology. In 1977 he joined the Camaldolese and in 1978 he retired to the Eremo di Camaldoli.
