Circulene

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Circulene , also called corannulene , are aromatic hydrocarbons . The structuring element of the Circulene is that the cyclic aromatics themselves in turn form a cyclic compound. Circulenes can be composed of both aromatics and heteroaromatics .

The number of aromatic rings in square brackets is placed in front of the nomenclature of simple circulars. This is the systematic designation of corannulene [5] circles and coronene [6] circles .

construction

Circulene are divided into an inner and an outer perimeter. Both perimeters form fully conjugated systems which, depending on the number of electrons , can have both aromatic and anti- aromatic character.

The Circulene is divided into inner perimeters (blue) and outer perimeters (red).

The coupling between the two parameters depends on the system under consideration. A strong coupling between the two perimeters is possible, which corresponds to the main mesomerism within the individual aromatics, and a weak coupling which corresponds to the separate presence of an inner and an outer aromatic system.
