Cité de l'Ill
The Cité de l'Ill is a large housing estate in Strasbourg in Alsace . It is part of the Robertsau district .
The Cité de l'Ill has about 6500 inhabitants. It is located at a height of 145 m above sea level in a meander of the Ill .
The Cité de l'Ill was built in 1957 by the social housing association Habitation Moderne , which is run by the city . In the first phase up to around 1962, 46 buildings with around 1,500 apartments were built, including the 17-story Tour Schwab and the 12-story Tour Kah . There were also some shops, a primary school, the Catholic Church of Sainte-Bernadette in 1965 and the Protestant Church in 1967.
In a second phase, six buildings with 140 apartments and a retirement home with 49 units were built in 1970.
