Cité du Fleuve
The Cité du Fleuve ( City of the River ) is a construction project near Kinshasa , the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo . At the beginning of 2008, thought was given to building up islands in the Congo River near Kinshasa to build luxury apartments. After geotechnical, hydrological and market economy studies, the feasibility of the project was confirmed. In 2009, the earth began to be backfilled. Residential buildings, parking lots, shopping centers, offices, conference rooms and more are to be built on 200 hectares .
On the official website of the project you can see that the landfill is already finished and that houses are already being built. It is unclear when the project will be completed. The construction costs were estimated at one billion US dollars .
