The City Arkaden are a shopping center in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee . The shopping gallery is the second largest shopping center in Carinthia after the Atrio shopping center in Villach and is located on the northern edge of Klagenfurt's city center.

The City Arkaden on St. Veiter Ring opened on March 28, 2006 after a year and a half of construction. The planning and construction were previously accompanied by resistance from parts of the population and merchants who particularly criticized the failure to carry out an environmental impact assessment and the neglect of the southern inner city caused by the construction of the City Arkaden. The industrial buildings of the Neuner Lederfabrik from the 19th century were demolished for the construction . However, this had been empty for decades.

In total there are over 110 shops, cafés and restaurants with 30,000 square meters of retail space on three levels. There are around 880 chargeable parking spaces available on two floors. In order to avoid traffic chaos, the St. Veiter Ring in the area of the City Arkaden was expanded to four lanes. Directly in front of the main entrance is the Heuplatz bus stop of Stadtwerke Klagenfurt, where lines 40 and 41 regularly stop every 7 and 15 minutes in the direction of the main train station, Annabichl and Feschnig.

40 companies opened their first shop in Carinthia in the City Arkaden, 15 even their first in Austria. The shopping center is operated by the Hamburg-based ECE group. The City Arkaden are part of the portfolio of the listed Deutsche EuroShop AG .

This is the first conception of a city center shopping center in the present type in Austria. The main argument was that the inner city area should and will benefit from the shopping center's customer frequency.

A similar building can also be found in Wuppertal -Elberfeld. One difference, however, is that the Wuppertaler Arkaden was not integrated into an existing building complex, but was built almost entirely from scratch. In addition, the selection of shops and restaurants there is different.
