Coordinates: 34 ° 56 ′  S , 138 ° 40 ′  E The City of Burnside is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . Burnside is part of the metropolis of Adelaide , the capital of South Australia. The area is 28 km² and has about 44,000 inhabitants (2016).

Burnside connects to Adelaide city ​​center in the northwest . The area includes 28 neighborhoods: Auldana, Beaumont, Beulah Park, Burnside, Dulwich, Eastwood, Erindale, Frewville, Glen Osmond, Glenside, Glenunga, Hazelwood, Kensington Gardens, Kensington Park, Leabrook, Leawood Gardens, Linden Park, Magill, Mount Osmond , Rose Park, Rosslyn Park, Skye, St. Georges, Stonyfell, Toorak Gardens, Tusmore, Waterfall Gully and Wattle Park. The council is headquartered in the Tusmore district, home to around 1,300 residents.

In 1839 a Scottish settler first settled in the area and started a farm. Five years later, Christopher Penfold settled in Magill and started growing grapes. Penfolds is one of the oldest Australian winemakers and today exports worldwide. Magill and Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley are the two growing areas of Penfolds.

The hilly area around the 384  m high Mount Osmond was mined in the early days and the mine shafts can still be visited today.

Burnside is mostly a more affluent residential area with lots of parkland.

Burnside City Council has 13 members. Twelve Councilors will be elected by the residents of the 6 Wards (two each from Kensington Park, Kensington Gardens & Magill, Rose Park & ​​Toorak Gardens, Burnside, Beaumont and Eastwood & Glenunga), which are divided into 28 boroughs. The council chairman and mayor (mayor) is also elected by all residents of the city.
