Coordinates: 37 ° 50 ′ S , 140 ° 47 ′ E The City of Mount Gambier is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 308 km² and has about 26,000 inhabitants (2016).
Mount Gambier is located in the extreme southeast of South Australia in the middle of the Grant Council about 380 km southeast of the metropolis of Adelaide . The area includes the city of Mount Gambier .

The Mount Gambier Council has eleven members, ten councilors are elected by the residents of the two wards (five each from East and West Ward). These two districts are defined independently of the localities. The council chairman and mayor is also elected by all residents of the LGA.
