Coordinates: 31 ° 58 ′ S , 115 ° 48 ′ E The City of Nedlands is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . Nedlands belongs to the metropolis of Perth , the capital of Western Australia. The area is 20 km² and has about 21,000 inhabitants (2016).
Nedlands is located west of downtown Perth in an area between the north bank of the Swan River and the Indian Ocean coast . The distance to the center of Perth is about five to ten kilometers. The seat of the City Council is in the district of Nedlands, where about 10,200 inhabitants live (2016).

The Nedlands Council has 13 members, twelve Councilors are elected by the residents of the four Wards (three each from Coastal Districts, Dalkeith, Hollywood and Melvista Ward). The mayor (mayor) and council chairman is also elected by all residents of the city.
