Coordinates: 31 ° 57 ′ S , 115 ° 51 ′ E The City of Perth is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . It is the city center of the metropolis Perth , the capital of Western Australia. The area is 13 km² and has not quite 22,000 inhabitants (2016).
The city is located on the north bank of the Swan River and is about ten kilometers from the coast. The seat of the City Council is in the district of Perth, where 11,425 inhabitants live.

The Perth Council has nine members, eight councilors and the Lord Mayor (full title The Right Honorable The Lord Mayor ); they are chosen by the residents of the city. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts. The Lord Mayor is not only Chairman of the Council, but also acts as a representative for all of Perth. In 2007, Lisa Scaffidi became the first woman in Perth history to hold the position of Lord Mayor.
