Ciyuan

The Ciyuan ( Chinese  辭 源  /  辞 源 , W.-G. Tz'u-yüan  - "Source of Words") is one of Lu Erkui ( 陸 爾奎 ) u. a. published Chinese dictionary , whose strengths lie in the comprehension of the classical Chinese literary language.

It was first published in 1915 by the Commercial Press ( 商務印書館  /  商务印书馆 ) in Shanghai , and a revised edition appeared in 1939.

The currently authoritative edition is four volumes and has been published since 1979. It has been reprinted several times, e. B. 1990 in Beijing . A character index is in pinyin spelling.

A supplementary volume entitled Ciyuan tongkao ( 辭 源 通考 ), which was published in 2002 by Tian Zhongxia ( 田忠俠 ) at Fujian renmin chubanshe in Fuzhou ( ISBN 7211039175 ), provides corrections and additions.

Before the publication of the works Hanyu da cidian ("Great Chinese Dictionary") and Hanyu da zidian ("Great Chinese Character Lexicon") it was one of the most important aids in Western Sinology .
