The AFP news agency described the two-minute film as a “groundbreaking classic in early cinema history.” Cleopatra is portrayed by the actress Jeanne d'Alcy . action
The plot of the lost film is presented slightly differently in the available sources. According to a scenario by Méliès, the plot consists in the fact that after a dance by priestesses around Cleopatra's grave, two men appear who desecrate the grave and set the mummy of Cleopatra on fire, from which Cleopatra emerges alive and angry. According to other sources, a man of diabolical appearance cuts Cleopatra's mummy into pieces and then uses magic to restore it and bring it to life.
