Cladosporium is a genus of mold with more than 50 known species. They are very common and can be found in all parts of the world (with the exception of the polar regions).
Cladosporium is a so-called black fungus . This name comes from the fact that the spores and also parts of the hyphae turn brown to black-brown through the formation of melanin .
Since these are the most common molds in the outside air, allergy tests are usually carried out for this species.
Systematics
The black fungi were previously grouped together in a Dematiaceae family belonging to the Fungi imperfecti . In the meantime, however, one could assign a main fruit form ( teleomorphic , sexual form) to most species . As a result, most of the black fungus genera were assigned to the family Pleosporaceae , while the teleomorphs of the Cladosporium species belong to the genus Mycosphaerella in the family Mycosphaerellaceae and thus belong to the sooty fungus-like . Species whose main fruit form is not a Mycosphaerella species are accordingly no longer included in the Cladosporium genus .
