Claire Harman

Claire Harman (born 1957 ) is a British literary critic and author of several biographies.

Life

Claire Harman started as an editor at Carcanet Press for Michael Schmidt (* 1947). She was co-editor of the literary magazine PN Review in Manchester . She writes literary reviews for the Times Literary Supplement , Literary Review , Evening Standard and The Sunday Telegraph, among others . Harman conducted research on Sylvia Townsend Warner and has written several biographies on English and American literature, including Jane Austen , Robert Louis Stevenson and Fanny Burney . Harman won the 1989 John Llewellyn Rhys Prize for her biography of Sylvia Townsend Warner. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature .

Harman writes poetry and received the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem in 2015 .
