Coordinates: 33 ° 50 ′  S , 138 ° 37 ′  E The District Council of Clare and Gilbert Valleys is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 1,840 km² and has around 9,000 inhabitants (2016).

The Clare and Gilbert Valleys belong to the Lower North Region of South Australia and are located about 120 kilometers north of the metropolis of Adelaide . The area includes 49 districts and towns:

The administrative headquarters of the council is in the town of Clare in the north-west of the LGA, where around 3300 inhabitants live (2016). The Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council has ten members, the nine councilors and the chairman and mayor of the council are elected by the residents of the LGA. Clare and Gilbert Valleys is not subdivided into districts.
