Clarence Paul Feldmann (born January 14, 1867 in New York , † July 21, 1941 in Delft ) was a Dutch electrical engineer.

Life

Clarence Feldmann was born in January 1867 in New York as the son of the businessman Karl Feldmann and his wife Pauline Goldstein. He studied electrical engineering from 1885 to 1888 with Erasmus Kittler at the TH Darmstadt . From 1888 he was his assistant at the electrical engineering institute of the TH Darmstadt. From 1889 he worked at Ganz & Co in Hungary and from 1894 as chief electrician at the electricity company Helios in Germany. In 1902 he became a private lecturer at the TH Darmstadt and in 1904 he was awarded the title of professor. In 1905 he became a full professor of electrical engineering at the Polytechnic School in Delft . As President of the Dutch Electrotechnical Committee, a position he held from 1912 to 1940, he largely determined the fate of Dutch electrical engineering.

Feldmann was rector of the TH Delft in 1924/25. From 1927 to 1930 he was the first Dutch president of the International Electrotechnical Commission .

Clarence Feldmann died in Delft in July 1941. He had been married to Lina Feldmann-Stamm (1866–1943) from Darmstadt since 1891. She died on April 1, 1943 while being deported to the Westerbork transit camp . The painter Carl Albert Feldmann (1894–1966) emerged from the marriage.
