The frogfish ( Clarias batrachus ) from the order of the catfish is native to Sri Lanka, East India, Malaysia, Indonesia and as far as the Mekong Delta. In the meantime it has multiplied strongly as a neozoon in some parts of Florida.
The fish, known as walking catfish in English-speaking countries, has an additional respiratory organ in the form of a breathing bag, which allows it to take in additional surface air in low-oxygen habitats. The fish can survive outside the water for a certain period of time.
The frogfish can reach a size of up to 50 cm. The adult males can be distinguished from the females by the drawing of the dorsal fin with dots.
In Southeast Asia it is a popular food fish. The usual length for consumption is ~ 30cm.
