Josef Weinlechner (born March 3, 1829 in Altheim , † September 30, 1906 in Höflein ) was an Austrian pediatric surgeon .

Life

After primary school, his parents sent him to Kremsmünster to attend the Benedictine collegiate high school there . In 1849 he began to study medicine in Vienna , which he completed on June 13, 1854 with a doctorate in medicine. A year later he received his doctorate as "Doctor of Surgery ". After the end of his assistantship in 1863, there followed rather quiet years, he briefly headed the officers' hospital in Augarten Castle in Vienna. In 1865 he completed his habilitation and got a permanent job as a primary surgeon at St. Anna Children's Hospital . Three years later he was a primary physician at the Rudolf Foundation in Vienna. In 1873 he was appointed associate professor, which took place in 1878.

In 1900 Weinlechner began to slowly retire from professional life, in 1902 he finally retired. A year earlier he was awarded the title of Imperial and Royal Court Councilor.

In 1906 the surgeon died of a stroke during a hunt, he was buried on October 3rd and is lying in a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 14 A, number 42). In 1910, Weinlechnergasse in Vienna- Landstrasse (3rd district) was named after him.
