Classic Yes is an album by the British progressive rock band Yes from 1981. It is the band's second compilation after Yesterdays and their fourteenth release. While that had concentrated on the founding years, Classic Yes brings together pieces from the "classic" phase of the band from 1970 ( The Yes Album ) to 1977 ( Going for the One ).
Emergence
The album was released after the band broke up at the end of the drama tour. It was compiled by Yes bassist Chris Squire . The first release included an LP with the studio tracks (1 - 7) and an additional single with previously unreleased live versions of Roundabout and I've Seen All Good People recorded during the Tormato tour in 1978: Roundabout comes from a performance at Oakland Coliseum ( San Francisco ) on October 7th, 1978, I've Seen All Good People from a concert at Wembley Empire Pool ( Great Britain ) on October 28th, 1978. All songs were put on a single recording for CD release.
Cover
For the cover, the fantasy artist Roger Dean used the picture Green Towers , which was intended from the design phase of an architectural project by Roger and Martyn Dean for the city of Sydney ( Australia ), but was never realized.

The album did not enter the charts in England, reached number 142 in the US-American charts, where it was recorded for 5 weeks, and after a few years platinum status.
