Initial shut-off

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An initial shut-off is a valve to protect individual branches within a pipeline network . Initial shut-offs should be able to safely close the pipe branch to be protected in order to be able to carry out maintenance and revision work on this branch without having to take the entire network out of operation. For this reason, Primary shut-offs are to absolute tightness constructed . Less importance is attached to other properties such as the (stepless) throttling of the fluid flow.

Shut-off valves (for small nominal sizes ), shut-off valves and diaphragm gate valves (for medium nominal sizes) and gate valves (for large nominal sizes) are suitable as initial shut-offs . They should be placed as close as possible to the branch from the main pipeline.
