Claude Firmin
Claude Firmin (born February 18, 1864 in Avignon ; † December 8, 1944 there ) was a French painter and art teacher.
Claude Firmin was born in Avignon, where he lived all his life, and was educated as a student of Pierre Grivolas (1823–1906) at the city's art school. He moved to Paris to continue his studies at the Académie Julian and at the École des beaux-arts de Paris with Léon Bonnat . From 1889 to 1922 he exhibited his works in the Salon des Artistes Français and from 1907 to 1910 at the Salon des Indépendants .
Back in Provence, he made numerous frescoes for the municipality of Avignon. He joined the "Group of Thirteen", which was founded in 1912 by Clément Brun (1867–1920) and only worked for one year.
In 1922 he was appointed professor at the École des beaux-arts d'Avignon, where he also held the post of director from 1937 to 1941.
He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor on January 29, 1937 .
