Pierre Grivolas (born September 2, 1823 in Avignon ; † February 5, 1906 there ) was a French landscape, portrait and genre painter.

Grivolas began his artistic training in the drawing courses in Avignon. In 1843 he won the first prize of the “concours de dessin biennial” of the Fondation Calvet, which was endowed with a monetary prize that enabled him to continue his studies in Paris. There he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts with Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres , Eugène Delacroix and Hippolyte Flandrin .

When the February Revolution broke out in 1848 and the Second French Republic was proclaimed , he returned to Avignon and in 1854 became one of the first members of the Félibrige Association for the Promotion of Provencal Culture.

From 1878 until his death, Grivolas was director of the École des Beaux-Arts d'Avignon. He promoted outdoor painting there , accompanied his students on excursions to Les Angles and along the Rhone . He is credited with creating the art movement known as the "Nouvelle école d'Avignon". His students included u. a. Auguste Chabaud , Claude Firmin , René Seyssaud, Marius Roux-Renard, Benoit Benoni-Auran, Clément Brun, Auguste Roure, Eugène Martel and Jules Flour.

In 1894 Grivolas invited his youngest brother Antoine Grivolas (1843–1902), a still life painter, to move from the Côte d'Azur to his house near Mont Ventoux . The following year they moved to Monieux , a small village at the entrance to the Gorges de la Nesque . They spent the next season in Ventouret near Aurel .

A street in Avignon was named after him.
