Claudy ( Irish : Clóidigh ) is a small town (English village ) in northern Ireland in the historic county of Londonderry in Northern Ireland . The city belongs since 2015 to the District Derry City and Strabane .

Claudy is located in the west of Northern Ireland, 10 kilometers southeast of Derry City on the way to Dungiven . The population of the place was determined in the 2011 Census with 1336 people. Claudy has two primary schools ( primary schools ), a college ( secondary school ) and two churches.

In relation to his size, Claudy was particularly hard hit by the Northern Ireland conflict with 13 fatalities; An attack on July 31, 1972 alone claimed nine victims, in which three car bombs were detonated almost simultaneously in the town center and in which the Catholic priest James Chesney was involved with subsequent cover from the Church and the state, as only became publicly known in 2010.
