Claus Dittrich (born December 30, 1939 ) was the President of the Dresden Chamber of Crafts from 2002 to 2012 . He has been a master roofer since 1960 and an entrepreneur in Dresden since 1961. Dittrich contributed significantly to the reconstruction of the Saxon craft organizations after the reunification of Germany. In 2002 he received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .

Career

Claus Dittrich completed an apprenticeship as a roofer . In 1960 he successfully passed his master craftsman examination in the roofing trade. He completed his correspondence course in business administration in 1971 with a diploma (FH). In 1961 he took over the roofing company founded by his grandfather in 1905 and led it in the third generation through the GDR and post-reunification era. During the GDR era it escaped nationalization. In the 1990s he handed over shares to his son Jörg Dittrich. Today the company has over 50 employees and is the largest regional employer in the roofing trade.

Claus Dittrich is widowed and has two sons: Christoph Dittrich is a musician and has been director of the Chemnitz Theater since 2013 . Jörg Dittrich is the successor to father Claus Dittrich, both as head of the master roofing company Claus Dittrich GmbH & Co. KG and as President of the Dresden Chamber of Crafts .

Claus Dittrich lives in Dresden, where he has been a long-time member of the local Rotarian Club.

Commitment to the craft

From 1990 to 2002 Dittrich was the chairman of the state guild association of the roofing trade in Saxony. At the same time he was a member of the main board of the Central Association of the German Roofing Trade (ZVDH). Dittrich helped set up the new professional trade organization in Saxony and represented the East German trade at the federal level through his committee work. He was also the founding president of the General Association of Saxon Crafts and Vice President of the Saxon Crafts Day.

On July 31, 2002 he was elected President of the Dresden Chamber of Crafts. In 2007 Dittrich was unanimously confirmed as President of the Dresden Chamber of Crafts for another five years. Since 2006 he has also been chairman of the working group of the Saxon Chamber of Crafts. Dittrich is active in numerous other committees at federal, state and municipal level. In 2012 he was elected honorary president of the Dresden Chamber of Crafts.

He promotes cooperation between German and Polish as well as French craft. Dittrich was honored with the highest craft awards in Germany, France and Poland.
