The Clayton Ramparts are a series of east-west facing cliffs in the East Antarctic Coatsland . They tower over 1,600 meters on the southern edge of the Fuchs Dome in the Shackleton Range .
They were first measured in 1957 by participants in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) under the direction of the British polar explorer Vivian Fuchs . Aerial photographs by the United States Navy followed in 1967. This was followed by a further survey by the British Antarctic Survey between 1968 and 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1972 after Charles Allen Clayton (* 1936), geodesist of the British Antarctic Survey at Halley Station between 1969 and 1971.
