Clemens Wallrodt

Clemens Wallrodt (born May 14, 1960 in Schleusingen as Clemens Seiffert ; † June 19, 1995 ) was a German painter .

Life

Wallrodt completed an apprenticeship as an electrician in southern Thuringia . After completing his apprenticeship, he worked in various professions, including as a stage technician at the Meininger Theater . He was involved in the Montagskreis Suhl for the social peace service as well as in the Helba residential community in Meiningen and appeared as a singer in temporary formations such as “Five Year Plan”.

Living in East Berlin since the 1980s, Wallrodt trained himself as a painter. Wallrodt participated in the unofficial artist magazines Braegen (edited by Henryk Gericke ) and Liane (edited by Volker Handloik , Heinz Havemeister , Michael Thulin the i. Klaus Michael and Susanne Schleyer) and exhibited, among other things, in the unofficial galleries De Loch on Schönhauser Strasse Berlin and in the gallery Wohnmaschine Friedrich Loock in the Tucholskystraße Berlin . On New Year's Eve 1989 the ACUD gallery was opened in Berlin's Rykestrasse with works by Wallrodt.

When the ruins of the Wertheim department store on Oranienburger Strasse, which burned out during the war , threatened to be blown up by decision of the Berlin City Administration, Wallrodt belonged to Leo Kondeyne, Paulo San Martin, Andreas Rost, Thomas Sojka ("Tombo") and other artists on 13. February 1990 to the occupants of the building. The preservation of the building is thanks to this spectacular action. It also marked the birth of the Kunsthaus Tacheles , which until it was vacated in September 2012 gave numerous artists from all over the world work and living space and became a model for further artistic repairs. The Tacheles pioneers included, for example, Christian Lorenz (“Flake”) from Feeling B and the video artist Stefan Schilling from Dresden.

As an electrician and painter, Wallrodt was actively involved in the expansion and renovation of the Künstlerhaus from the start. Among other things, he designed the first gable with a neon light installation “Where's Captain Nemo?” And steel structures in the café of the house. Wallrodt died in a car accident on June 19, 1995 on the way back from an exhibition in Paris when he was killed in his car by his own works of art.
