Clemens Weiler

Clemens Weiler (born September 18, 1909 in Tübingen , † August 1, 1982 in Stuttgart ) was a German art historian .

Life

Clemens Weiler studied art history in Munich, Paris, Vienna, Frankfurt and Marburg and received his doctorate at the University of Marburg in 1937 . From 1937 to 1939 he was museum director for the districts of Montabaur, Herborn, Königstein and Dietz. From September 1, 1946, he was director of the Gemäldegalerie Wiesbaden, and from 1969 until his retirement on January 31, 1972, director of the Wiesbaden Museum . He was primarily concerned with the work of the painters Alexej Jawlensky and Marianne Werefkin , who are well represented in the Wiesbaden Museum, and contributed to the expansion of the collection.
