The Cliffs of Gloom ( English for cliffs of darkness ) are up to 200 m high rocky cliffs on the south coast of King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . On the south side of the Krakow Peninsula , they stretch between the Syrezol Rocks and Martins Head .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1998 after the fact that the south-facing cliffs are constantly shaded.
