The clown puffer fish ( Canthigaster callisterna ), also known as the white band puffer fish, is the second largest member of its genus with a maximum length of 23 centimeters. It lives in the southwestern Pacific , around Australia , New Zealand , New Caledonia , Lord Howe Island , Norfolk Island and the Kermadec Islands at a depth of 5 to 250 meters.
The fish have a light brown top and a light belly. A white, medium or dark brown lined longitudinal band extends from the snout to the end of the tail. The upper and lower edges of the caudal fin are dark to black. Fine blue lines and dots pattern the puffer fish everywhere.
Little research has been done on the clown puffer fish.
