The Club of the Cruiser Department ( CKA ) is the sailing club of the cruiser department of the German Sailing Association (DSV). It enables sailors to be members of the cruiser division of the DSV without having to belong to a local sailing club. With more than 8000 members (as of 2019) it is one of the largest sailing clubs in Germany.

history

Since neither the German Sailing Association nor the cruiser department belonging to it knows individual memberships of natural persons, cruising sailors had to be members of a sailing club of the DSV before the club was founded. This led to resentment, as membership in a local association was necessary in order to use the service of the cruiser department, which often had no interest in cruising sailors, but instead focused on regatta sailing . At the suggestion of the Admiral's Cup winner Hans-Otto Schümann , the club of the cruiser department was founded in 1971. Since then, sailors have been able to join the cruiser department directly through this club and take part in regattas with a stander and use the bases of the cruiser department.

organization

The club operates nationwide, but has no regional structure. Membership in the club includes membership in the cruiser department of the DSV.
