Coordinates: 31 ° 29 ′ S , 145 ° 48 ′ E The Cobar Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 45,579.3 km² and has about 4,600 inhabitants.
Cobar is located in the center of the state in the north-western region and is about 700 km west of the metropolis of Sydney . The area comprises 40 hamlets and hamlets, including Cobar , Eubalong West, Nymagee, Mount Hope and part of Eubalong. The seat of the Shire Council is in the city of Cobar in the northeast of the LGA, in which almost 3,748 inhabitants live.

The Cobar Shire Council has twelve members who are elected by LGA residents. Cobar is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
