Cobb salad
Cobb Salad is a classic mixed salad in US cuisine .
The invention of this dish is awarded to the Brown Derby restaurant in Hollywood / Los Angeles . In 1937, its owner Robert H. Cobb is said to have put it together from various components of other dishes as an emergency solution.
Another interpretation is based on the arrangement of the components next to one another. This is similar to a corn cob (English: cob ) and has in common with the other variant that the ingredients are served separately from each other and are only mixed by the guest.
According to the original recipe, the salad has the following components:
- Lettuce , and watercress or Romaine
- small diced tomatoes
- fried bacon
- fried chicken breast
- boiled chicken eggs
- Avocado cubes or avocado slices
- Roquefort or other blue cheese
- raw leek rings from spring onions
It is also often supplemented with black olives, sweet peppers or artichoke hearts.
A Cobb Salad Dressing , which is a heavily spiced vinaigrette, is served with it .
